Forex: GBP/JPY (Pound Sterling vs Japanese Yen)

In this combination, the GBP/JPY is simply put, the pound is the base unit of currency and the yen is the counter. This means that if you buy both, it will be at the pound rate and when you sell, it will be at the yen rate. Why are these types of cross currency pairs sought after? It could be that with the US dollar being so volatile, that many want to take advantage of more stable currency pairs when they are trading Forex. The more stability that these pairs have the less that the currency is likely to crash like a freight train out of control.
